A rest day in Bandol. So a slow morning and Ann cooked full English breakfast. Then some boat maintenance and washing. A bright sunny day and the washing dried in no time. After lunch (prawn avocados) we wandered through the town and over the headland to the beach the other side. On our way back we bought fresh veg and fruit and sat down in a restaurant. Michael had bulots (that’s sea snails) and steak, and Ann had seafood tapas and seabass. All very nice and then back to the boat and scrabble (Ann won).

Away by 7.30 in hazy sun and calm sea heading east past Toulon and made St Tropez by 11.am. We anchored in a bay nearby for coffee and Ann pronounced the sea still too cold for swimming. There are many very large boats here on the move and we think it must be to do with the Cannes Film Festival. Also there are two large cruise ships anchored off so it is very busy. We up anchored and went into the marina to find our berth and had lunch- sardines for Ann, octopus in sauce for Michael with salad followed by cherries. Our afternoon snooze was interrupted by a loud speedboat next door leaving. Then into the town for shopping and looking around. Everything very expensive – cherries twice the price they were in Bandol for example and expensive clothes shops obviously catering for the large boats and cruise ships – not us! Michael bought himself a new cap in a modest establishment – he was much in need of a new one. Back on board for prawn avocados, moussaka & veg, followed by nectarines. A storm was brewing and it became very close, but the forecast for tomorrow is good with perhaps some rain. We shall see if we are able to set off for Corsica tomorrow as planned. We took a walk around the town in the evening and saw the huge boats moored up. We have seen big boats before but none like these - they are like cross channel ferries and there are a dozen of them. We are glad we have a small boat because if we had a medium size boat we would feel that we wouldn't quite have got there as it is we are just not in the competition and aren't we just so glad.
