Michael looked over the harbour wall, listened to the weather and went back to bed!
For the first time when coming out into the cockpit and into the sun it felt hot!! Today it was a complete day of rest – no shopping just a bit of boat maintenance. M needed to do some glueing and he was using a glue kit he had bought in Spain. We managed to decipher the instructions which said that the area to be glued needed to be cleaned with some alcohol. This seemed a bit of a waste until we remembered the Pastis. While in the South of France we had passed the island owned by Paul Ricard who made his fortune by inventing Pastis. It is a fennel flavoured aperitif much loved by the French and we bought some to try. We thought we had bought cough medicine by mistake when we tasted it. But nothing is ever wasted – it came in very handy to clean the area to be glued. Sorry Paul but you can’t win them all.
A week today we should be getting on our flight home and we have two hops to do, both of 75 miles so we have caught right up after the delay in Corsica. If the conditions are right when we are going along tomorrow we may make it one hop and do the whole 139 miles in one go. We are beginning to get excited about finding our new marina home and experiencing Corfu and the surrounding islands. Ann is particularly looking forward to swimming in some warm water. When we arrived here in Crotone we wanted to make sure that the problem with the automatic steering wasn’t being caused by any structural damage to the props or rudder so she had donned the wetsuit and snorkel and gone in to have a look. She not only reported that all was well with the boat but also that the sea was considerably warmer than hitherto.
Today continued hot and we were in swimsuits for the first time. We stayed on the boat all day. Cold paella and cherries for lunch, tapas in the evening and strawberries. A really lazy day.
Ann won Scrabble.
